Let’s be real here. You wanna tone and lose weight so you bought a bunch of weights and a yoga mat over the winter break. You’ve also ordered the P90X DVDs (can we get a resounding “UGHHH”?) and even shopped for some super cute Lululemon tops. So, where are all these fitness tools now? Oh, just accruing dust under that box labeled, “Summer Clothes”…
Working out at home is obviously easy but how can you find the motivation when there’s a spoon and a jar of Nutella just sitting there in your kitchen? Sometimes, women need that extra push. Here are three reasons why a gym might actually help you this coming new year:
1. Access to Utilities
Unless you’re Victoria Beckham and you have your own $60,000 gym at home, you’re not gonna have access to the same machines that are at your gym. Additional to aerobic and weightlifting machines, most gyms also have swimming pools, squash courts and saunas (keyword: saunas).
2. Great for Workout Newbies
If you’re like us, you don’t know the difference between the leg press and a 5-pound weight. On gym sign up, a trainer will give you a free consultation and introduce you to all the machines so you don’t accidentally use the shoulder press backwards…
3. Classes, Classes, Classes
At the gym, you can get anything from yoga to spinning to hip hop dancing. If you’re an exercise class beginner, dance classes might be the easiest way to combine exercise and fun. Of course, if you just want to clear your body and mind and not learn “how to dougie,” yoga is perfect for relieving stress while toning your body.
Of course, the gym isn’t for everyone. But also remember that all gyms are different. As women, we recommend Curves because of its focus on women and its multiple promotions. You can even sign up for free, just to get a tour!
So, dust off that cute sports bra and get exercising. Summer’ll be here before you know it!
