Decorating your home is a fun pastime, but it can often get expensive and time-consuming. Worse yet, after spending all that money and time shopping, you visit a friend’s house and see that they have the exact same decorations hanging in their living room. Kudos to both of you for having the same good taste, but it’s a little frustrating to know that you’re just another one of a million consumers.

Step outside of the crowd and make your home decor as unique as you by trying out some of these DIY room decor projects.

1. Window Film Pattern

Isn’t this just a gorgeous way to spruce up your old and boring window? It’s a look that’s simple to achieve. Simply find some striking window film, cut it into identical hexagon-shaped pieces, and apply it to the glass. The design still lets in enough light but gives you a little privacy in case you have nosy neighbors.

2. Faux Stained Glass Window

You might not realize just how easy it is to mimic the look of stained glass. All you need for this project is an old window or glass pane and a variety of glass paints to add some color. Draw on whatever design you’d like, then begin painting away! The results look cute hanging in your kitchen or living room.

3. LOVE Bookshelf

Do you just LOVE books? Then this unique bookshelf is probably perfect for your office or bedroom. The cool array of letters give you many unique storage options, meaning you can add even more of a decorative touch with cute embellishments!

4. Photo Lamp

Maybe you don’t have a lot of extra space to hang photos on your walls. No worries, because this multipurpose lamp looks stunning with all of your children’s portraits on it! It’s a really simply project involving tracing paper that looks extremely professional when completed.

5. Inspirational Canvas Prints

Are you a fan of inspirational quotes and sayings? If so, then you need to make a few of these wall hangings immediately! They’re super easy to make, as you simply print out the design on your computer’s printer. Choose a color theme for your room or go full out rainbow if you dare (there’s something very inspirational about that in itself).

6. Wine Bottle Lights

These lights inside of old glass bottles are absolutely stunning! They make a perfect addition to a dim room. Use colored lights inside the bottle for a prettier alternative. To get really fancy, you could even paint designs on the bottle – the possibilities are endless!

7. Penny Table

unique room decor

If your kitchen counter-top or living room coffee table is looking a bit drab, why not spice it up by pouring some money into it… literally! This technique gives your tabletop a revitalized look that is both modern and vintage at the same time.

8. Stenciled Rug

diy home decor

Is this a gorgeous rug? If you look at the before pictures, it was not so gorgeous then. The stenciled paint pattern really revamped the entire look and feel of the room. If you have an old rug that you are thinking of replacing, it might be in your best interest to try out this technique first!

9. Bubble Chandelier

It’s so shiny! And so cute! We just want to pop all of the hanging bubbles (which are really just acrylic balls). Just by coating the inside of the lamp shade with gold leaf, the light suddenly looks like some glorious ray of sun imparted from the heavens themselves.

10. Fireless Fireplace

Feeling a bit more inspired? This fake fireplace would instantly make your living room into a regal and stunning area. The project does involve a little bit of building, so your hubby’s help may be required. Make it into a fun weekend project and by Monday you can basically have a completely redesigned living area.

11. Braided T-shirt Rug

If you’ve got loads of old clothes lying around waiting to be discarded, this is the perfect use for them. This colorful rug looks great in a child’s bedroom or playroom. It’s a warm and toasty treat for your feet when you wake up in the morning if you place it next to your bed.

12. Rolled-up Blinds

If you don’t have money to spend on buying fancy blinds for your windows, don’t sweat it – simply make your own! This easy window treatment is a great alternative to the Swedish blind. Even better, you get to pick your own fabric, which will save you hours of time searching stores for the color that matches your existing decor.

13. Book Page Wreath

While it might be blasphemy to some ardent book lovers (sorry!), this old book page wreath is too cute for words. It makes a great addition to a room in a black and white color scheme, or a room that just needs a little bit of a homey touch.
