Sure, breakfast in bed and flowers are nice touches for Mother’s Day, but why not kick it up a notch this year. You know your Mom deserves a day that is unique and special in every way. To help you plan a day that will knock her socks off we have provided you with some great ideas that will have all of the Moms in the neighborhood talking.
1. Picture Perfect
Go with your mother to get professional photographs taken. Pick out matching outfits and spend the day at a studio or outside. These pictures will be treasured forever and the photography session can be a fun and bonding experience.
2. Day of Indulgence
Moms work hard and deserve a day of pampering. Book some time for the two of you to spend the day together at the spa. Try to plan treatments where you are not alone and are instead spending time together like a couples massage and a manicure/pedicure.
3. Mom’s Day Out
Arrange a Mom’s day with all of her other Mommy friends. Make reservations for lunch, mani/pedi’s and maybe even hire a limousine to take them all around town for the afternoon in style.
4. Picnic in the Park
Take Mom out for the afternoon with a planned picnic lunch and activities. Throw frisbies, play catch, or take a croquet set. Spending the day in beautiful weather with her kids will make for a wonderful day for Mom.
5. Maid for a Day
Moms work really hard so for one day you can pay her back. Pick the things that you know she really doesn’t enjoy doing and do them, like cleaning the garage, washing the baseboards, and organizing the pantry.
6. Movie Marathon
Snuggle up on the couch with mom, pop some buttery popcorn and watch movie’s that celebrate mothers like Terms of Endearment, Steel Magnolias, Beaches, Freaky Friday, The Blind Side, and The Parent Trap.
7. Exotic Escape
Take a fabulous “vacation” right at home. If your mom has always wanted to visit Paris, you can still enjoy a little taste of France. Get some croissants for breakfast, pack a picnic lunch of French bread, cheese, fruit, or quiche. Go all out and use a red-and-white checkered table cloth and fresh flowers, play some French music and use the language, merci and bonjour. No matter what her dream destination is the entire family can have fun planning a day around the theme.
8. Flower Power
Plant a Mother’s Day flower canvas. First, buy various packets of flower seeds that grow fast and well in your region. Then the kids can write a short message like “We love Mom” in the garden dirt with a stick. Drop the flower seeds into the dirt lines; then cover them up, and water every few days. Before long, your picture (or message) will be blooming and you’ll have a Mother’s Day gift that keeps on growing.
9. Hug Marathon
Make the entire day about showing Mom your love and affection. Post a “hugs and kisses” schedule on the refrigerator. For instance, you could write, “10:30am: Everyone runs around the couch and gives Mom a hug and kiss.” or “2:15pm: Everyone hops around the oak tree on one foot and assembles for a group hug.” Make up your own directions and silly things to do making sure to include lots of hugs, kisses and laughter throughout the entire day.
Do you live far away from your Mom? A surprise visit on her special day would sure make for an unforgettable Mother’s Day. You don’t even need to plan anything to do once you get there, she’ll just be happy to be able to be with you.
11. Shopping Spree
Sometimes figuring out a good gift for your Mom is a difficult task. So why not just tell her that you are taking her to the mall to get her whatever she wants! Spend the day shopping, eating food court grub, talking and browsing until she finds the perfect thing.
12. iMovie Premiere
Make your mom and iMovie using pictures of you and her together throughout the years set to music. Then plan a premiere party for the whole family. Make it fancy by having a red carpet where everyone can get dressed up and you can serve fancy appetizers. We guarantee Mom will not be able to keep her eyes dry for this premiere.
13. Bon Appetit!
Plan a special dinner for your Mom and prepare everything yourself. You might have to shell out a little money to buy the food, but cooking the dinner at home can be done for a fraction of the cost of taking her to dinner and it is so much more special.
14. Slumber Party
Get a hotel room for the night and start a new Mother’s Day tradition of having a slumber party full of a night out on the town (for older kids) or a hotel party with room service, movie rental, and pillow fight. (for younger kids).
15. Flying High
Take Mom souring high up in the clouds for an unforgettable Mother’s Day adventure.
